An exciting future for Christchurch

Enhancing Christchurch for the benefit of future generations is at the heart of everything we do.

Following the devastating Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011, Countrywide Group has emerged as one of the founding developers involved in constructing some of the very first major post-earthquake office and retail building projects in the Christchurch central city.

To date, Countrywide Group has developed a number of property assets with a total value of over $190 million.

This experience places us at the forefront of the Christchurch rebuild, offering a track record of quality developments which are in demand among a range of high-calibre national and local tenants. We deliberately select tenants looking for longer-term tenancies who share our values, resulting in a mutually-supportive mix of tenants in a range of sectors including professional services, design, construction, health, primary industries and hospitality. We are also proud of the high amenity value which staff working in our buildings enjoy; from fitness centres to car parking and plenty of nearby options for lunch breaks and the after-work wind down.

Our Philosophy & Objectives

Christchurch is embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime journey. Our city is uniquely poised to capture attention on a global scale, proudly displaying a meticulously planned and rebuilt central city full of vibrant spaces for locals and visitors to enjoy. And this is just the beginning. As the central city continues to take shape, and more major government-led anchor projects come on stream, demand for retail, office and hospitality premises is on the increase. Our key objective is to provide attractive, cleverly designed and well-constructed spaces for businesses to make their home in the Christchurch CBD. This is crucial to the ongoing success of the city’s rebuild.

Our Founders

Mike Sullivan

Mike is a trained engineer with experience as a site engineer, chief surveyor and project manager. He founded Clearwater Construction in 1984 and went on to establish a group of complementary companies. Mike remains Managing Director of Clearwater Construction. Over the years, he has developed many innovative construction solutions which enable his companies to be leaders in the industry.

Clearwater has completed many large-scale projects in Auckland including Westfield shopping malls and the West Auckland Swimming Centre. A large portion of Clearwater’s work is construction of inner city apartment blocks, with over 1,000 apartments built to date. The company has several high-end apartment developments currently underway in Auckland, as well as having just completed the prestigious ‘The Spire’ development in central Christchurch.

Richard Diver

With a background in construction, Richard later moved into the property development and investment arena where he has built up a wealth of development experience, extensive industry knowledge and an enviable network of contacts over several decades. He is a respected member of the Christchurch property development community who has displayed the ability to act quickly on opportunities and achieve significant progress in short time-frames.

A long-time Christchurch resident who is committed to the rebuild of the city, Richard has a keen sense for identifying successful development opportunities and seeing them through to completion. With 25 years of successful development in Victoria Street already behind him, he has an intimate knowledge of this precinct and a strong vision for its ongoing success. Richard’s focus and vision was the driving force behind the first new building completed in Victoria Street following the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. He has also worked on several residential development projects in the Christchurch central city.

Commercial Project & Facilities Manager

Adele Childs

Adele has more than a decade’s experience in the property industry, having originally started her career in personal insurance and business development. During her time with Countrywide she has built close relationships with many key contacts throughout the property industry in Christchurch. She has also gained a significant depth of experience in all aspects of property ownership and development; including building management, lease negotiations and project management.

Being naturally equipped with strong interpersonal and communication skills and taking a hands-on approach, Adele is adept at juggling the multiple demands of day-to-day property management, as well as managing larger projects. She enjoys a challenge and leaves no stone unturned in the pursuit of mutually-beneficial solutions for Countrywide, its stakeholders and its tenants – taking great pride in her work and focusing on delivering quality outcomes in everything she does.

We have a great relationship with both Richard Diver and Adele Childs, and their constant communication and assistance throughout the build process has been an immense help!
