Black & White Coffee Cartel, located at 83 Victoria Street, looks set to become a Christchurch coffee institution. Combine an eclectic collection of artwork, mismatched furniture and an excellent variety of quality coffee and eats and you’ve got a café bursting with character and atmosphere. Not to mention the friendly, fun service.
Black & White Coffee is the newest development from the likeable Bink Bowler, ex-proprietor of Wellington’s Memphis Belle and a guy who knows his way around a good cup of coffee, having begun brewing at age 14. There are a variety of ways to enjoy your daily ritual, with classic espresso, syphon, pour over and cold brews available. Beans come from Havana, and a range of blends are available for tasting or purchase.
The coffee takes centre stage at Black & White, with a small selection of local food offerings available from Christchurch stalwarts Grizzly Bagel and Cakes by Anna.
Black & White is a rare Christchurch find, with outdoor seating, late opening hours and prominent, edgy character it’s a welcome addition to the often polished and slick Victoria Street hospitality scene.
